Commonly asked questions relating to installations.
What do I need to know to choose the right automation?
In order to install a gate operator, in addition to knowing the width of the passageway and the weight of the gate, you have to check the type of application and use for which it is intended. The choice of the right operator is crucial to ensure a longer service life for your operator with fewer problems.
What steps must be carried out before you install a gate-operator?
Before installing any operator, electrical connections must be prepared and it is mandatory to know the type of gate to automate. For underground solutions, the foundation box must be set into the ground.
Can I install and automate my own gates?
While it is not impossible for someone with knowledge of electrical installation, groundworks, bricklaying, carpentry, welding and even physical geometry to complete a successful DIY gate installation, there are a number of important points to consider before doing so; Gates that are incorrectly installed are not only dangerous, they can also be lethal if not done correctly.
We recommend getting your gates automated by a professional installer which then qualifies for the full CAME product warranty.
What precautions should I take if I have children in the house?
CAME products are subject to stringent safety tests before being marketed. EN Tested technology ensures that when the door comes into contact with an obstacle, however minimal, the operator automatically blocks movement, reversing the direction. Want more peace of mind? CAME always recommends the installation of photocells and flashing lights.
What safety devices must I install?
CAME products with EN Tested technology perfectly comply with the minimum requirements for impact force detection, however, we always recommend the installation of photocells, preferably on the side of the road if in the vicinity of a public passageway. It is essential that installation be performed in a workmanlike manner. If the gate is designed for intensive use, you can also install sensitive edges that reverse the direction of travel when in contact with any obstacle. Finally, we recommend that a flashing light signals the operator’s motion status.
What safety devices are recommended for home installations?
CAME offers a wide range of safety products such as photocells, sensitive edges and signal lights. We always recommend installing safety photocells to protect vehicles and people.

A hard-wired system requires a wired connection through electrical wires and generally, the control unit is close to the automation, radio control does not require electrical connections between the automation and control unit; commands are sent via a remote control that takes advantage of the radio waves to send the signal.
In case of snow, will the operator experience faults?
All CAME Products for the automation of sliding and swing gates can withstand temperatures up to 20 degrees below zero, while the internal components are isolated from external agents such as water and dust. In the case of heavy snowfalls, be sure to clear snow from the area affected by the movement of the gate to prevent the operator from being blocked when finding the obstacle and the photocells not being clearly visible.
